Teacher Grant Announcement

Cambridge Springs, PA – Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative announces the recipients of its Clearly Brighter Teacher Grants. Each semester, fifteen $100 grants are available to teachers through the Cooperative. First implemented in 2001, these grants are intended to help teachers receive additional funding for special class projects. To date, Northwestern REC has awarded a total of 89 Clearly Brighter Teacher Grants.

This month, grants will be awarded to the following teachers and their respective projects:

  1. Erin Cleland, Main Street Elementary, grade 1: Leap Pad system for Title 1 students.
  2. Gary Check, Linesville High School, grade 7 - 8: Geiger Counter project.
  3. Cindy Gettys, East End Elementary, grades K - 6: Bulk tubing fitness program.
  4. Joan Kozlowsky, Linesville High School, grades 7 - 12: Technology to build public speaking.
  5. Mary Ann McDonald, Seton Catholic School, grade 4: Hands on circuit building.
  6. Mark Johnson, Cambridge Springs Jr./Sr. High, grades 11 - 12: Materials for CNC Milling.
  7. Shelley Parks, Conneaut Valley Elementary, grade K: Leveled reading materials.
  8. Cindy Mattera, Alice Schafer Elementary, grade 1: Erie Zoo outreach program in classroom.
  9. Molly Miller, Cochranton Elementary, grades K – 6: Books & materials for Reader Theaters.
  10. Dianne Burnside, Calvary Baptist, grades K - 12: Recording equipment for music classes.
  11. Joyce Randall, Linesville High, grades 7 - 8: Recording equipment for literacy support.
  12. Penny Tobin Orlop, French Creek Valley, grades K - 12: Light fixtures for gymnasium.
  13. Beverly Scott, West End Elementary, grade 2: Supplies for bird feeding/watching project.
  14. Elizabeth Auer, Union City Elementary, grade 5: Book incentives for Read Across America.
  15. Judi Cujas, West End Elementary, grade 2: Book incentives for Read Across America.

As a community-oriented cooperative, Northwestern REC is dedicated to offering programs that help improve the quality of life. The teacher grant program is one way the Co-op reaches out to children.

Teachers in public and private schools, as well as home-school teachers, are invited to apply. Applications for the next granting period, September 2004, will be accepted through May 1, 2004. Questions may be directed to Amy Fuller at 1.800.472.7910.
