Youth Tour Scholarship Winners

Officials from Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Inc. announce the selection of eleven area high school juniors to receive the 2009 Youth Tour Scholarship. The Youth Tour Scholarship experience includes a week long stay in Washington D.C. visiting the museums, monuments and elected officials. The students also meet with their peers from throughout the United States to learn about the cooperative way of business.

“Winners were selected from numerous candidates on the basis of test scores and a personal interview, explained Mary Mulligan-Haines, Communications/Marketing Manager for Northwestern REC. Even for the students who are not selected the interview is a valuable experience for the individuals.”

The Youth Tour Scholarship winners are Maura Stewart, Krystal Kline, and Amanda Mosier from Cochranton High School; Katie Harvison and Laurie Shorts from Maplewood High School; Jessica Rumbaugh, Trenton Whitman and Laurie Hopkins from Titusville High School; Anne Grill and Elliot Kim from Meadville High School and Tom Sovisky from Cambridge Springs High School.

The students will leave for their Youth Tour experience on June 14.

Northwestern REC is a distribution electric cooperative serving members in Crawford, Erie, Venango, Warren and Mercer counties. Our mission is to continually improve the quality of life in our spheres of influence.
