Northwestern REC is a electric distribution cooperative that serves over 20,000 members in Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer and Venango Counties in Pennsylvania, Ashtabula County in Ohio and Chautauqua County in New York.
After the Territorial Protection Act was signed into law in July 1975, the service territory boundaries were clearly established for every electric company in Pennsylvania. This act was created basically to prevent investor owned utilities from duplicating lines where member-owned cooperatives already served.
Although we’d love to welcome anyone as a member-owner of Northwestern REC, to become a member your property must first fall within our service area “borders”.
